When buying a home in Harrisonburg or Rockingham County, some buyers discover that they will likely have to choose either a home with mature trees and an established neighborhood feel... or a home with modern features and finishes in a newer development.
It's often not an easy decision.
Mature Trees
Neighborhoods with mature trees just feel different. They often have more character, more shade, often sidewalks and the feeling like the neighborhood has been established over decades... which it has been. But you probably already know the tradeoff. The kitchen might be dated, the bathrooms might need work, and the layout will probably feel a little cramped by today's standards.
Modern Features and Finishes
On the other side of the coin, newer neighborhoods offers things that are often quite appealing to buyers. Open floor plans, modern flooring and finishes, likely less ongoing maintenance, and more. The tradeoff here is that the trees (if they exist) haven't had long to start to grow... and the neighborhood will have a different feel to it.
Which Would You Choose?
Would you choose the mature neighborhood, even though you might have to live with (or update) some dated features in a home?
Or would you choose a new or recently built home in a less established neighborhood with fewer (if any) mature trees.
