Commuting
How much of a commute are you willing to have?

Thinking beyond Harrisonburg, the average distance of a commute likely varies drastically depending on if you live in an urban area, suburban area, rural area or something in between.

If you work in Harrisonburg, would you be willing to live in Broadway, or Elkton, or Staunton, or Waynesboro and commute back and forth five times a week?

One of the trickier commutes is Massanutten... the perceived commute might seem like it's to the Massanutten entrance on Route 33, but you might have another 10 to 15 minutes depending on where you live in Massanutten.

Or, thinking about it in terms of time behind the wheel...would you buy your next home 15 minutes away from where you work?  How about 30 minutes away?  Or 45 minutes?

Plenty of people who move to the Shenandoah Valley do so because of the slower pace of life compared to living in larger cities. Sometimes that means they are quite happy with a 20 minute (instead of 60 minute) commute - but sometimes they aim for a 5 to 10 minute commute because that is possible in the Valley.

If you're buying your first home in the Valley (or your second or third) let's think about where you want to live based on your potential commute.  That isn't the only way to think about the best location for you to buy your new home, but it is one important perspective to consider.
